Explore the Museum of Making project

Over five years Derby Silk Mill was transformed into the Museum of Making on the site of the world’s first factory, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Derby City Council, Arts Council England and the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership.

Celebrating the area’s rich history of innovation, the Museum of Making in the Derwent Valley Mills – a  UNESCO World Heritage Site – opened in 2021 and is a contemporary space telling Derby’s 300-year history of making to inspire new creativity. Designed and made by the people and industries of Derby with exhibits, workshops, activities and events.
