Field to Fashion: Making your Clothes Sustainable

Derby Museums, supported by Artfund, aims to enlighten diverse audiences in understanding and beginning to think about real life solutions to the complexities involved in fashion sustainability, from heritage practices and research;  making and manufacturing; exploration of sustainable materials, consumer responsibility, production, activism, education and innovation.  We want making and YOU to be at the heart of this project, making your clothes wear well for you, and the planet.

Fabric: August to January The fabric your clothes are made from tell stories of nature, heritage, innovation and skill. As one of our visitor’s has told us, “Love your clothes – fabric is valuable!” In conjunction with our exhibition Earthbound, our programme Field to Fashion will allow you to explore the heritage of the textiles of Derby and Derbyshire, discover new innovative fabrics that are allowing our clothes to return to the Earth, look closely at the beauty of fabric construction and learn how to weave, knit and bond fabric from different fibres.
