Who will be crowned the Derby Poetry Festival 2024 Slam winner? Could it be you?
Returning to the Museum of Making for the second time, Derby Poetry Festival presents the annual Adult Slam, hosted by Derby Museums.
Often referred to simply as ‘Slam’, a Poetry Slam is a competitive form of Poetry, participants write on any topic they chose and are scored on their writing and performance as well as their ability to keep to a set time limit, with a winner walking away with the title.
Although a competition, oftentimes you’ll hear the mantra “the point is not the points, the point is the poetry”. Slam brings out raw and emotional responses to relevant topics, to both the writer and the current social situation.
This year’s Slam takes place after five years of successful slams in Derby. Expect an emotive evening filled with passion, enthusiasm and joy at what is always one of the liveliest nights of the festival.
