Discover the Art of Clay – Six-Week Pottery Course

Join our Six-Week Pottery Course and explore the beautiful world of clay – no experience needed.

Over six hands-on sessions, you’ll learn a variety of techniques to build, decorate, and glaze your very own ceramic pieces. Each week introduces a new skill, guiding you step-by-step through the process of making pottery from start to finish.

What You’ll Learn:
• Pinching & Coiling
• Working with Soft & Hard Slabs
• Throwing on the Potter’s Wheel – a brief taster session.
• Decorating with Slip – Add colour and detail to your pieces.
• Carving & Texture
• Glazing Your Work – in the final session.

What You’ll Take Home:
By the end of the course, you’ll have a collection of your own handmade, glazed ceramic pieces.

Materials:

Materials are included for you to complete up to five pieces. There is opportunity for you to fire additional work at an extra cost.

About the artist:

Gillian is an artist and experienced pottery tutor – and also manages the Workshop here at the Museum of Making.

Additional information
Lunch is available to purchase from The River Kitchen at the Museum of Making or various eateries and shops in the city centre.

How to book
Tickets are priced at £200 per person. Derby Museums Makers are eligible for 10% discount. Booking is essential. Due to the bespoke nature of this workshop, refunds are not available.
