Become part of a 300-year legacy of making by becoming a maker at the Museum of Making.

Situated in the site of the world’s first modern factory, our fully equipped workshop has facilities for woodwork, metalwork, jewellery-making, ceramics, CNC machining and more.

Becoming a workshop maker gives you:

  • Access to our workshop equipment
  • Consultations with technicians
  • Suitable for all levels

To access the Workshop follow the steps below:

  • Book in for an induction for £20 this will last you a year upon completion. These tend to take an hour, and take place every Friday at 3pm.
  • To book onto an induction please fill in this form or call us on 01332 641901.

Workshop Maker benefits:

  • 25% discount on food and drink at The River Kitchen
  • 10% off museum-programmed learning activities
  • 10% discount in our shops at Derby Museum and Art Gallery and the Museum of Making

Once your induction is completed, you’ll then be able to book onto the Workshop machinery at an hourly rate, please see available times here. The prices can be found here. To book, please call 01332 641901 (24 hours in advance) or please email info@derbymuseums.org (48 hours in advance) with the equipment you’d like to book onto, the level of support required and the start and finish time.

Upon arrival at the Museum of Making, our friendly Workshop team will take payment for your session in the Workshop (card only).
