Derby’s Egyptian collection is re-examined in a thought-provoking exhibition, enhanced by loans from national museums
Derby Museums’ collections from ancient Egypt are brought together in this special exhibition at Derby Museum and Art Gallery. Featuring over 80 objects and the remains of three mummified humans, the displays explore why these collections are here and how they travelled all the way from North Africa.
Derby’s collections are joined by world-class loans from the British Museum, Manchester Museum and more. New research helps to tell previously untold stories, exploring the history of the collection and Derbyshire’s links with Egypt; critically examining previous displays and opening up discussions around colonial collections and the display of human remains.
There will be lots of opportunities to take part in our journey, as we look afresh at the extraordinary objects that are now in Derby and create plans for a new, permanent Egypt display. Keep an eye on our website for special events.
