About David Longford:

David Longford has an extensive career in theatre and heritage.

From 2001 to 2023 he worked as the Creative Learning Manager at the Theatre Royal & Royal Concert Hall Nottingham, working alongside the RSC, National Theatre, Northern Ballet and other major companies, as well initiating and lead producing Nottingham Puppet Festival.  Earlier this year David was invited back to the festival to present a sell-out pre-screening talk on David Lynch’s Eraserhead.

David has directed numerous professional and community productions, including The Lichfield Mysteries, The Hundred and One Dalmatians starring Toyah Willcox, adapting Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes, Sue Heap’s Cowboy Baby and Michael Morpurgo’s Robin of Sherwood for younger audiences, and a site-specific, promenade production of Sheridan’s The School for Scandal to mark the 150th anniversary of the Theatre Royal Nottingham.

In partnership with the University of Nottingham, David developed the successful Our Theatre Royal Nottingham heritage work, a major community led project involving extensive oral histories, public events and a new digital archive, establishing a story focused template for researching and understanding theatre heritage.

David currently works for the National Trust as the Programming and Partnerships Manager at the Children’s Country House at Sudbury in Derbyshire, the innovative and award-winning site that creatively promotes history and heritage for children, families and young people.
This illustrated festive talk will reflect David’s passion for stories and storytelling, ranging from his work around Pantomime, his current Cinderella project for the National Trust and his private obsession with B-movies.
