Session Description: It is 1851 at Derby’s Silk Mill. The Silk looms are noisily clattering and Eliza Bird, a 10 year old Silk Winder, is tirelessly working. Bring your learners to an engaging and multi-sensory experience; exploring the museum, using census information, photos from the past and other sources to playfully discover what life was like for children employed at Derby Silk Mill over 150 years ago. Learners will take on the role of a silk winder and make some twisted ‘silk’ ropes of a variety of different colours, fashionable in Georgian and Victorian times.
