The class will hear the fascinating story of a scribe called Ramose and discover what life was like for him and his family in Ancient Egypt over 3000 years ago with a range of activities and artefacts in the museum.

What kind of world did humans live in 12,000 years ago? In this session we’ll discover how humans lived towards the end of the Palaeolithic era, when the climate, geography and technology were very different to what we have today.

The session begins with costumed guide, Senilis the Roman Potter, meeting the children. He shares tales about his life as a soldier in the fort of Derventio using objects on display at the museum to illustrate his story.

The session begins with an exploration of the Viking settlement of Britain and the conflicts with the Anglo-Saxons, with particular reference to Derby.

Why are the paintings of Derby’s own Joseph Wright world-renowned? After this session your pupils will be in no doubt! Students will be introduced to Joseph’s life and his artwork.

A session 200 million years in the making! In this hands-on session, students will become palaeontologists and explore our unique fossil collection.
