Session Description: Complete a KS2 Unit of work in a day at The Museum of Making! Give your class a unique opportunity work in our state of the art Studios and to use a range of tools and machines to design and make a working clock! Following in the footsteps of world renowned Clockmakers Smith’s of Derby, learners will emmerse themselves in their history and their design practices to make a clock for someone, somewhere.

Session Curricula: DT, History, Mathematics, STEAM

  • History (A local history study of Smith of Derby’s  importance in Derby and the world; events beyond living memory that are significant globally;  Explore the development of technology over time in the galleries)
  • Design and Technology (understand how key events and processes in design and technology have helped shape the world; gain knowledge, understanding and skill to engage in an iterative process of designing and making; select from a wide range of tools to perform practical tasks; select from a range of materials and explore their functional properties)
