Session Description: Were the Vikings raiders, invaders or traders? This session, which utilises the new galleries, focuses on the Viking settlement of Britain and the conflicts with the Anglo-Saxons, with particular reference to Derby. Pupils will examine Anglo-Saxon stone artefacts from Repton and Derby, see and learn about Viking burials, and handle artefacts and objects that tell us about Viking life. Children will write in Viking runes and will also make a Hammer of Thor pendant complete with ‘traded’ beads.
