Session Description: The Museum of Making, in partnership with Rolls-Royce, would like to invite your Year 8, 9 or 10 students to take part in a free and interactive half-day session.
Activities relate to this year’s British Science Week theme of “Curiosity: What’s your question?”. Students will see, and take part in, the scientific principles, techniques and processes used by a whole spectrum of teams at Rolls-Royce. Activities will provoke questions like; ‘how do you keep jet engines and nuclear reactors safe?’, ‘How are new, more efficient parts designed and tested?’ and ‘How are nuclear submarines powered?’. This gives students a unique and exclusive insight into the fascinating career options, available right here in Derby, from a world-leading global brand.
Students will have the opportunity to look at the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 aero engine suspended in the museum and will engage in a series of real-life, experiment based, techniques used in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), the Materials Labs, Machining, and Submarines at Rolls-Royce. Students will also hear from Rolls-Royce apprentices and industry specialists about their own career pathways with advice on how to get into a career at Rolls-Royce.
