MUSEUM OF MAKING IS NOW OPEN – 26/01/2023
Derby Museums is pleased to announce the reopening of the Museum of Making on Friday 26th January after flooding forced its closure back in October 2023. Find out more here.
The Derby Museums team have been overwhelmed by the ongoing support, generous donations and kind offers of help received from the local community and businesses since the flood, with an appeal in the early days of the closure receiving over 300 donations. The generosity of the public and business community has enabled Derby Museums to mitigate a substantial amount of costs unrecoverable under the insurance policy.
Thank you.
APPEAL UPDATE – 23/10/2023 12.35
We have been overwhelmed by the generous response and offers of support from our community. We are currently in conversation with our insurers and are hopeful they will cover the majority of the remaining losses, however it is too early to know if all remaining losses will be met.
As a charity, Derby Museums rely on the generous support of our visitors, donors, supporters and funders and so if you wish to make a donation, these will be used to either support recovery costs not covered by our insurers, support costs incurred to mitigate future flood damage or will support us in continuing to remain fantastic and free. We would like to thank everyone who has shown such generous support for Derby Museums.
FLOOD DAMAGE APPEAL – 21/10/2023 13.26
You may have seen the news that due to the severe weather conditions, the Museum of Making has been exposed to substantial flood damage.
Whilst the building was designed to withstand an element of flooding and our teams worked tirelessly to move as much as possible off the ground floor, water levels are far higher than predicted at planning stage and the interruption to our day to day activity is likely to be substantial, with significant loss of income. As a charity, we rely heavily on donations and earned income through events and catering, which is currently being affected by the flooding.
We have been overwhelmed by the kind messages received online, many of you have asked how you can help. We will be doing a full assessment of the damage as soon as the water has receded and it is safe to enter the building. Our museums are already in a precarious financial position, we are now asking for your help to mitigate the impact of the damage and loss of income.
If you can make a donation, big or small, we would be very grateful.
Donations can be made through our website here: DONATE HERE – please select ‘Museum of Making’ as the reason for your gift.
Thank you.
