Section of Transatlantic Cable

Object details:

Firstly, this is not a telescope!

A long, long time ago, after the dinosaurs but before the wonders of the internet, mankind invented the telegraph! But the telegraph did not have Wi-Fi, so mankind had to use giant, underwater cables which were laid across the ocean floors.
This amazing piece of communication history is a section of the earliest successful transatlantic cable. These remarkable bits of engineering were used from 1866 and newer fibre-optic versions are still in use today. Imagine the hot gossip sent down this line!

The stories, the messages, the dots and dashes.

The perfect adoption gift for anyone who likes things from the bottom of the ocean, tech and the wonderful world of communication.
