About

Hospitality and Catering Assistant (casual)

Do you have a passion for high quality customer care, museums and their rich cultural heritage? Are you a friendly, enthusiastic, highly driven team player?

If the answer is yes, you may be exactly what we are looking for.

The Museum of Making is a contemporary space telling Derby’s 300-year history of making to inspire new creativity. A variety of galleries and exclusive events spaces are available to create a beautiful and inspiring backdrop to any event. We are increasing our talented team of event staff to help create a professional and customer focused environment to suit.

The Role

We are looking for suitable, enthusiastic and very friendly people to join our bank of casuals to work in The Museums’ Cafes and at events. As a Casual Hospitality & Catering Assistant, you will be responsible for delivering an excellent guest experience for both a variety of events and in the Museums’ cafes. Duties will include everything from setting up events to serving food and drinks, as well as other general duties such as cleaning and adhering to health & hygiene. You will ideally have experience of working in a customer focused role, have bar experience and have knowledge of food hygiene regulations, but this is not a necessity. On the job training will be given for all areas of the role. You must have a friendly disposition and excellent customer services skills. You will mostly be situated at the Museum of Making but will also work at our other museum event spaces.

The Person

You will have an eye for detail and have a good understanding of events and excellent customer service. You will be a good team player and enjoy working in a customer focused role and be results orientated. If you have experience working in a visitor attraction or customer focused environment, then that’s a bonus.

We believe that diversity and equality within our workplace, programmes, and in our outlook is crucial. We therefore particularly welcome applications from candidates that are under-represented at Derby Museums and within the heritage sector, including black and minority ethnic candidates and/or candidates with a disability.

The Place

Derby Museums is a charitable trust which manages three museums and cares for collections of cultural heritage on behalf of Derby City Council. This includes the finest collection of work by the 18th century British artist Joseph Wright of Derby and extensive collections of natural science, world cultures, archaeology, history and making.

Derby is a city with a heart, in the heart of England. It’s a friendly, prosperous but affordable place on the edge of the beautiful Peak District and has great ambitions to place culture at the heart of its future prosperity.
