Museums’ Collections Storage Project Manager

This is a rare opportunity to lead the relocation project of one of the UK’s most significant museum collections.

Derby Museums is the independent charity which cares for more than 300,000 objects on behalf of Derby City Council. The collections include fine and decorative art, archaeology, natural history, science, technology, military history and social history. This includes internationally important paintings of Joseph Wright of Derby ‘Designated’ by Arts Council England as being of outstanding national significance. Our collections inspire hundreds of thousands of people every year and support research, learning and exhibitions across the UK and beyond.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the planning and delivery of the relocation of these collections into new storage facilities. Working jointly with Derby City Council, you will oversee complex logistics, develop future-proof storage solutions, manage specialist contractors and multidisciplinary teams, and ensure our collections are protected and accessible for generations to come.

The Person

If you are an accomplished Project Manager with experience of museum collections and relish delivering ambitious, high-profile projects with lasting public impact, we’d love to hear from you.

Hours: 37 hours a week 

Salary: £50,000 per annum

Contract Type: 24 months fixed term contract

Employee Benefits: 20 days (pro rata) + bank holidays (pro rata), flexible working, pension scheme, mileage allowance payable on authorised business travel.
