As part of ‘The year of Joseph Wright’ Derby Museums invites you to a series of specially curated talks about the life and work of Joseph Wright, exploring new and ongoing research from leading professionals across the country.
This talk will present highlights and case studies from Martin Postle’s ongoing research, relating to his forthcoming catalogue of Wright’s oil paintings, to be published by the Paul Mellon Centre.
Based on painstaking archival research, a review of existing literature, new insights, and a thorough examination of known and newly recovered works in public and private collections, the catalogue covers Wright’s entire painted oeuvre, including portraits, landscapes and subject pictures.
This talk is presented as part of Joseph Wright Rediscovered: a series of talks organised by Derby Museums and the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art.
Suitable for Adults (18+). Booking essential. Limited places.
