Talk: Let’s Flax! The Heritage of Flax to Fabric production in Derbyshire.

Museum of Making25 July 2026

We really need to talk about Flax!

Join community textile artist, Amanda Haran, as she guides you through an interactive and enlightening talk about how Flax to linen fabric production was once a thriving industry in Derbyshire, and what the environmental benefits of rekindling the growth of these pale blue flowered plants can be in the future.

You will have the opportunity to handle objects made of Flax, explore the plant and take home some seeds to start growing yourself.

This workshop is inspired by World 259, contributed by Sidony Swan, where each country has its own thriving textile industry, using local resources particular to that area. It provides jobs and its people buy locally produced clothing. fashionfictions.org/the-worlds/

This event is part of the Field to Fashion project funded by Art Fund and Rolls-Royce, as part of our STEAM Learning programme.
