Joseph Wright of Derby

Derby Museums is home to the world’s largest collection of works by artist Joseph Wright. Born in Derby in 1734, Wright is an internationally renowned artist, whose paintings and works on paper adorn the walls of major galleries the world over.

Derby Museums has a remarkable collection of historic porcelain and ceramic ware from Derbyshire that surrounds the tables within The Coffee House.

The Soldiers’ Story

Highlights our military collections and includes the Royal Lancers Museum. It tells the stories of three local regiments; the Royal Lancers, the Sherwood Foresters and the Derbyshire Yeomanry.

Derby Museums is home to a small collection relating to Prince Charles Edward Stuart (or Bonnie Prince Charlie as he is also known) and the Jacobite Rising of 1745.

Marion Adnams: Into ‘the Enchanted Country’

Born in Derby in 1898, Marion Adnams forged a reputation for her distinctive surrealist paintings.
Some of this material has rarely been seen before, being part of a large and diverse archive that was generously donated by her estate in autumn 2022.
