Craft and making Saturday club

We invite young people aged 13-16 years with an interest in Craft and Making to apply and join this new group.

Club members will develop creative, technical, and practical skills aligned with Craft practice and careers. They will be introduced to materials and processes linked to Derby’s extensive Industrial and Creative Heritage.

Club members of the Museum of Making Saturday Art club will be inspired by the makers of the past, will connect with the makers of today and become a Maker of the future. With a focus on traditional and innovative applications of materials the group will make objects that matter to Young People and to society.

The club will also explore transferable skills developing agency, resilience, critical thinking, teamwork, communication, and social and cultural literacy.

The Craft & Making club will be based at the Museum of Making, with access to the Studios and Workshop facilities. Sessions will be delivered by talented local Makers, the staff at Derby Museums and will be supported by current creative students studying in Derby, who will all inspire our next generation of makers in a safe and welcoming space.

Club members are expected to attend on a weekly basis.

I can say it was a really fun and interesting club. I went with a couple people I already knew, and I still ended up making friends there, as everyone was so welcoming and kind. The leaders were very nice, and made everyone there feel comfortable and that it was a safe environment to be creative and be yourself. The activities we did were super cool and a great way to reach out and experience new things that you wouldn’t be able to do normally. For example, we made paper and mosaics and did blacksmithing, which were exciting to learn about and take part in. Me and everyone else I know who went had a great time there and I would definitely recommend it, as I learned so much and had so much fun with activities you wouldn’t typically be able to do. I think most people would really enjoy going as it is a great experience full of opportunities .
