Community bake sales, marathons, talent shows, sports days, craft competitions, glass donations at a beer festival: the list of creative ways to support Derby Museums is endless. As a charity, we rely on generous donations to help us stay fantastic and free for everyone. So why not make your 10K go that little bit further by getting sponsorship to help your favourite museums?
Whether it’s on your own, a community or a group of you, we would love to help you set up a fundraising challenge. To share your idea and to discuss how we could support you, please get in touch with our Grants, Membership and Events Coordinator, Helena Smith Parucker at helena@derbymuseums.org.

In October 2025, Nicholas Remer is undertaking a fantastic fundraising challenge for Derby Museums. Nicholas, along with two other current and former serving soldiers in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers set themselves the challenge of restoring 3 classic 50.c.c mopeds and then riding them from Snowdon, to Scafell and finishing at Ben Nevis. Their journey to complete the 3 peaks will be around 500 miles of riding carried out over an 8 day period in the first week of October 2025. Their goal is to raise £3000 divided between 3 charities.
Their initial goal was to have an adventure on a tight budget but soon realised that this idea was the type of adventure that could be used to inspire others to take an interest in their shared passion for engineering and repairing things in interesting and creative ways.
Each participant has chosen a charity that means a lot to them personally. The Museum of Making strongly resonates with Nicholas on account of it spreading both STEAM subjects and promoting creativity in future generations. As well as, preserving Derbyshire’s vital role within engineering, the Industrial Revolution and the wider world.

Nicholas’ moped will be on display at the Museum of Making from Sunday 2 to Monday 24 March 2025. Make sure you check it out before it goes on its big adventure and have a go at naming the mascot who will be accompanying the team. The winner will be announced online in April.
