Derby Museums exists because of the passion and generosity of those who came before…
People like Sir Michael Thomas Bass, brewer and city MP.
People like Alfred Goodey, artist and collector.
People who understand the value of our heritage, and care about sharing it.
People like you.
You can follow in the footsteps of Derby’s philanthropists of the past.
A gift in your will can ensure our city’s heritage lives on.
You can preserve and protect our three museums, the 350,000 items in our collection and our globally important buildings.
Your loved ones come first when you make or amend your will. But any gift, no matter the size, can make a real difference to Derby Museums’ future. Please talk to us if you need more information.

Alice has supported Derby Museums ever since moving here to be near family. “I’m proud to support an organisation that celebrates heritage, encourages diversity and champions creativity,” she said. Alice hopes the gift in her will can continue this vital work in a community she has grown to love.
Thank you for considering a gift in your will to Derby Museums. It could be the most significant donation you ever make.
If you are considering leaving an object to Derby Museums, thank you. Please speak to us, and one of our curators will be in touch to discuss your gift. Call 01332 641901 or email legacygifts@derbymuseums.org
There are three main ways to leave a gift in your will: A share of your estate A fixed-sum cash gift A specific named item, such as a piece of jewellery
You have three options for your gift: 1. Leave a contribution to our Fund. Your donation can build up our Endowment Fund, from which we receive regular interest. Your gift will never be spent; instead, it will generate funds to support Derby Museums forever. 2. Leave a gift to be used where it’s needed most. We promise to use your donation wisely and carefully where the need is greatest. 3.Leave a gift towards a project. You could direct your gift towards one of our three museums, or towards a specific project.
If you don’t yet have a will, please use a solicitor to draw one up. Any solicitor local to you can provide help or advice. A solicitor or legal advisor can ensure your will is legal and valid.
If you already have a will, it’s a good idea to regularly review it to make sure it still reflects your wishes. You can update your will at any time. Amending your will to include Derby Museums is very simple.
Charitable gifts are usually free of inheritance tax. Gifts in wills can also help reduce inheritance tax on the rest of your estate. A solicitor can give you up to date advice on this.
You should provide your solicitor with our charity address and registration number: Derby Museums Museum & Art Gallery The Strand Derby DE1 1BS Registered charity number: 1149710
