Adopt an Object

Help us to carry on telling the tales of Derby’s past, long into the future.

Whether it’s at Pickford’s House or the Museum of Making, you can help Derby Museums to care for its unique collection by adopting one of our objects for a year. This is a great way to celebrate the city you love, celebrate an occasion or remember a loved one.

At Pickford’s House, adopt one of our quirky objects that celebrates the marvels of the Georgian home across the centuries, from set of sugar snips to a mahogany cheese cradle to a piano!

Each adopter will receive a certificate celebrating your new adoption and an old-fashioned luggage tag with a name of your choice will be added to the display of your object.

At the Museum of Making, choose from 39 best-loved objects that demonstrate iconic moments from Derby’s industrial history, from the 1980s ‘No Fouling’ sign to a Normanton manufactured brick, and from a Midland Railway train carriage key to a model of the Supermarine S6. Each object has its own unique story to tell, researched by our wonderful Derby Museums volunteers, waiting for you to help play a part in its next chapter.

Each adopter will receive a digital certificate and image of the object, and a choice of name included alongside the object on our Adopt an Object website.
